INTRODUCTION TO ENVIRONMENT AND WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM
(BAE 1)

This course provides brief information on Environment and Water Supply System in Malaysia, the source of erosion and sediments piling in rivers, pollution solving and water treatment methods.

Course Objectives:

  • To provide knowledge related to environment - water, air and its pollution.

  • To provide knowledge on Environment Control Act in Malaysia.

  • To provide knowledge water supply system in Malaysia and its relation to environment.

  • To provide knowledge on the responsibilities of authorities in the water supply industries.

Course Contents:

  • Introduction to Environment - definition, elements, and water area.

  • Treatment study area - catchment, water treatment plant and reticulation system.

  • Effects of multi activities.

  • Environment Act 1974 (Standard A and B).

  • The relation between Environment and water supply system.

  • The responsibilities of water authorities.

WATER PUMP OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE
(BAE 2)

This course provides knowledge on the operation and mechanical maintenance works of water pump and electrical components in a pump house.

Course Objectives:

  • Knowledge on types of pump and its components.

  • To understand the usage of pump system valve.

  • Knowledge on the methods of equipment operation and maintenance of water pump.

  • Knowledge on types and built of electric motor.

  • Knowledge on electric motor control device.

  • Identify the normal malfunctioning for electric motors.

  • Knowledge on methods and systematic operation and maintenance of electric motor.

  • Introduction to water pump system and its valves.

  • Operation and maintenance techniques.

FOUNDATION IN WATER SUPPLY
(BAE 4)

This course provides introduction to water supply system in Malaysia. It is suitable for new staff of the Water Supply Authority.

Course Objectives:

  • Describe water supply components, the maintenance of water supply equipment and maintenance of water distribution system.

  • To explain the Water Distribution System.

  • Cost estimation, implementation of site supervision works according to specifications.

  • To explain water treatment process, routine test, operational work and maintenance of water treatment plant.

Course Contents:

  • Introduction to water supply system.

  • Cost estimation.

  • Treatment process and routine tests.

  • Water Supply methods.

  • The operation and maintenance of water pump.

  • The operation and maintenance of Water Treatment Plant.

  • Site Supervision and Water Catchment structure.

DESIGN OF WATER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM
(BAA 2)

Water distribution system begins from clean water tank to users’ water pipe. This course provides the knowledge on the design of this distribution system (Reticulation System).

Course Objectives:

  • To explain the design criteria and standards for the water distribution system.

  • To produce hydraulic design for water pond and water pipeline.

  • To produce reticulation system design using computer.

ENVIRONMENT MANAGEMENT FOR PROFESSIONALS
(BAA 1)

Environment needs conservation. It is important to study the effect and implication to environment in the implementation of any development project. Hence, it is necessary to create awareness on environment conservation to all who are involved.

Course Objectives:

  • To increase understanding and knowledge towards the responsibilities of relevant authorities in ensuring the development of a balanced and stable environment.

  • To create awareness towards the conservation of natural resources and their importance in human life.

  • To create awareness towards techniques/methodology of analysis on the implication to environment resulting from development projects and control measures required to preserve them.

  • To provide opportunities for discussions and exchanging views regarding conservation and management of the environment.

QUALITY CONTROL AND WATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATION
(BAC 1)

Water Treatment Plant is an important structure in processing and treating raw water into drinking water. This course explains the basic components of Water Treatment Plant, its functions and the treatment process, physical and chemical aspects.

Course Objectives:

  • To provide knowledge on Ministry of Health’s programme in the quality control of drinking water.

  • To understand water treatment process, its physical and chemical aspects.

  • To understand the basic components of water treatment plant, function and its importance in water treatment process.

  • To understand the types of materials and Routine Testing Methods in water treatment process for water quality control.

  • Ministry of Health’s Programme in drinking water quality control.

  • The physical and chemical aspects of water treatment.

  • Introduction to the structure of Water Treatment Plant.

  • Introduction to the types of chemical for water treatment, its preparation and usage.

INTERNAL WATER PIPING SYSTEM
(BAC 4)

Internal Water Piping System is a Domestic User System. This course explains the Service Pipe System Design and Internal Piping System of a premise. Tools usage and maintenance method.

Course Objectives:

  • To obtain knowledge on basic service and Internal Piping System.

  • To understand the aspects contained in Water Supply Enactment, water supply methods and its implementation.

  • To understand various techniques used in service pipe and plumbing works.

  • To understand the importance of using the correct tools and identification of maintenance required.

Course Contents:

  • Introduction to water supply methods and enactment.

  • Internal Piping System - Introduction and basic components.

  • Types of pipes and fittings.

  • Tools used for pipe joint works and their maintenance.

  • Review of internal piping plan.

  • Pipe joining and testing.

OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF WATER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM
(BAC 5)

Water supply is an essential daily requirement to all of us. Water processed at Treatment Plants is distributed via the Water Supply System. Efficient management is required for the purpose especially for works concerning the operation and maintenance of the Water Distribution System.

Course Objectives:

  • To prepare guidelines in the planning of maintenance works.

  • To operate, maintain and repair pipeline, tools and water tank correctly and effectively.

  • To explain the methods of detecting and controlling leakage in pipelines.

  • Keep proper records and data.

Course Contents:

  • Functions and responsibilities of the Operation and Maintenance Division.

  • Introduction to water distribution system.

  • Maintenance of reservoirs.

  • Leakage control.

  • Water rationing.

  • Repair of pipes and specials.

HEAT FUSION JOINTING FOR PE PIPES
(BAC 7)

PE Pipes are being used in large scale in Malaysia. However, problems are still occurring in installation and joining works. Pipe quality depends on pipe workmanship, while installation quality depends on the quality of joining works involved. Therefore, those involved in pipe joining and installation works are required to have skills in identifying the quality of PE Pipes and knowledge that joining works should be done correctly as per specifications and techniques.

Course Objectives:

  • To understand more about PE Pipes including basic characteristics, types of PE, pipe production process, pipe marking and operation methods.

  • To enhance theoretical and practical knowledge in welding works for butt and electro-fusion jointing.

  • To provide certification and registration of PE Pipe Jointer.

Course Contents:

  • Theory on PE Pipes.

  • Theory on Jointing.

  • Hands-on on the Heat-fusion welding machine.

Course Methodology:

  • Lectures and Practical.

  • Assessment and test at the end of the course.

  • Certification for successful participants (Participants who failed shall be given the attendance certificate and allowed to re-sit the test).

Target Group:

  • All (PE Pipe Jointers involved in PE Pipe installation and jointing works, engineers, supervisors, technicians, asst. technician, and others involved in pipe supervision works).

  • Others interested in PE pipe jointing works including contractors and individuals.

2 days.

SUPERVISION, INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE OF DUCTILE IRON PIPES, FITTING & ACCESSORIES
(BAC 9)

This course is designed to enhance knowledge on the supervision, installation and maintenance of Ductile Iron Pipes, fittings & accessories, since their usage has been of great scale in Malaysia. It is desired that this course will assist in overcoming problems that arise from installations and jointing works.

Course Objectives:

  • To understand more about Ductile Iron Pipes, fittings & accessories including basic characteristics, types of DI Pipes and Fittings, pipe production process, pipe marking and operation methods.

  • To enhance theoretical and practical knowledge in supervision, installation and maintenance works.

  • To provide certification and registration.

Course Contents:

  • Theory on DI Pipes, Fittings & Accessories.

  • Theory on Jointing (JKR works specification).

  • Hands-on on the Ductile iron & Fittings - Demonstrations.

  • Hands-on on the Ductile iron & Fittings - Practical.

  • Assessment - Theory and Practical.

Course Methodology:

  • Lectures and Practical.

  • Assessment and test at the end of the course.

  • Certification for successful participants.

All involved in supervision, jointing/installation and maintenance of Ductile Iron Pipes, fittings & accessories.
